We offer essential ostomy supplies, education, and information to empower confident self-care.

Offering Support

We build supportive communities through peer groups, counseling, and psychosocial support.

Advocating for Change

We advocate for better ostomy care access, raise awareness, and fight stigma for greater inclusion.

Meet Dr. Alex Mushabe

Alex Mushabe is the founder of the Ostomy Association of Uganda (OAU). After meeting the president of the European Ostomy Association in Zimbabwe where he was doing business research, Mushabe learned about people living with stoma. He connected this to the people he had been meeting on the streets of Kampala, begging for help. This motivated him to start OAU to bring people with stomas together.

OAU At Work

The Ostomy Association of Uganda aims to address the challenges faced by ostomates. The troubling reality is that many ostomates in Uganda do not have access to the supplies, support, and knowledge they need. OAU offers ostomy supplies, psychosocial support, and patient and caregiver education, as well as advocacy to raise awareness and fight stigma association with having an ostomy.
